Jang-e-Saragarhi | 125th Battle Anniversary | Jalandhar

Tribute to the memory of The 21 Saragarhi soldiers of XXXVI Sikh, now 4th Battalion of the Sikh Regt, on the 125th anniversary of the Battle of Saragarhi fought on 12 Sept 1897. The one hour Sight and Sound show by S. Harbux Singh Latta was organized by the Deputy Commissioner of Jalandhar, by S. Jaspreet Singh at The Guru Gobind Singh Stadium. This is one of the 10 most famous battles of world history showing collective bravery in the face of imminent death and last man last bullet. All were awarded the highest award of Indian Order of Merit, given to Indian soldiers at that time and equivalent to today’s Param Veer Chakra (PVC). The British Parliament gave a standing ovation to them and Posthumous awards were introduced for the first time by The British Govt. It was a great pity that Daad, the 22nd man at Saragarhi, was not awarded the IOM as he was a non-combatant although he fought with the same valour and courage.
